The Procatopodidae family, commonly known as African lampeyes, consists of small freshwater and brackish fish native to sub-Saharan Africa. These oviparous fish are typically found in streams, rivers, lagoons, and swamps. They are known for their slender bodies, vibrant colors, and, in many cases, large, reflective eyes that give them their nickname, "lampeyes."
They are popular in aquariums due to their peaceful behavior, ease of breeding, and striking appearance.
