Green hair algae is a type of algae from the phylum Chlorophyta that commonly appears in freshwater aquariums. It is characterized by forming long green filaments, similar to hair, that attach to plants, rocks, driftwood, and decorations. It can grow abundantly when there is an imbalance between light, nutrients, and carbon dioxide, covering leaves and hindering the growth of aquatic plants. Although it often signals excess nutrients or prolonged lighting, it may also indicate an ecosystem with high nutrient availability.
