Description

The Green Tiger Barb is a selectively bred color morph of the Tiger Barb, displaying a metallic green to bluish sheen across its body. It is a small, active fish with a robust build and distinctive schooling behavior that makes it attractive in aquariums.

Behavior

This fish is energetic and social, best kept in groups to reduce aggressive fin-nipping. Males often display dominance within the group, but overall they exhibit lively schooling behavior and interact constantly with tank mates.

Habitat

This species inhabits shallow, well-vegetated streams and rivers with moderate currents and soft, slightly acidic waters.

Breeding

Green Tiger Barbs are egg-scatterers. During breeding, males chase females, who scatter eggs among plants. No parental care is provided, so eggs should be protected. To raise fry, a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or spawning mops is recommended, and parents should be removed after spawning.

Diet

They are omnivores that eat flakes, pellets, frozen and live food such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A varied diet supports their vibrant coloration and overall health.
