Descripción
The Amano shrimp is the best eater of filamentous algae available for the freshwater aquarium, which is why it carries the name of Takashi Amano, who popularised it for exactly that job. It reaches 5 cm, considerably larger than a Neocaridina, and is translucent with a row of dark dots along its flanks. Its size makes it safe around medium fish, but also means it can snatch food from slower tank mates. It does not breed in the aquarium: the larvae need brackish water to develop and die within days in fresh water, so the population never grows on its own.

Caridina multidentata

Hábitat
It comes from fast-flowing rivers in Japan and Taiwan, well oxygenated and with stony beds. Adults move upstream into fresh water while the larvae drift down to the estuary, a cycle that explains why it cannot be completed in an aquarium. It appreciates flow and hard surfaces to forage over.
