Description
The yellow nose shrimp is recognised by its rostrum — the 'nose' — of intense yellow over a translucent body. It is a Caridina endemic to Lake Towuti in Sulawesi, and like the other shrimp from those lakes it cannot cope with community tank water.
Its needs are nothing like a Neocaridina's: it wants water that is warm, alkaline and soft all at once, a combination tap water almost never provides, and absolute stability. It accepts no tank mates that cannot share those parameters, and there are very few.
It breeds in fresh water if conditions are right, with fully formed young.
Habitat
It is endemic to Lake Towuti in Sulawesi, where it lives on rocks and stony bottoms in clear, warm, alkaline, low-hardness water.
Keeping it takes RO water remineralised with salts made for Sulawesi shrimp, porous rock, high and stable temperature, and no fish.
