Description
Pseudohemiodon apithanos is a bottom catfish of up to 14.5 cm, from the San Miguel River basin, in the western Amazon. It is a loricariine, one of those that live on sand. Very little is known about it: only its size and where it lives are recorded.
It asks for a tank with a fine sand bottom, little current and calm companions that do not take its food. It is not a fish to start with.
Behavior
It can be expected to be calm and slow-moving, spending the day still on the sand. It competes poorly for food, so it is best fed at night. It needs fine sand that will not damage it and few hiding places.
It lives well with small, calm fish of the middle and upper levels.
Avoid housing it with other bottom fish that dispute its food and with large or lively fish.
Habitat
Pseudohemiodon apithanos lives in the San Miguel River basin, in the western Amazon. Its specific environment has not been described.

There is no source for this species' water: none of the accepted sources records its pH, temperature or hardness, and the profile's ranges are estimated from its congeners or species of the same genus.
Water: the ranges (pH 6-7.2, 2-10 dGH and 24-28 °C) are estimated from those of Planiloricaria cryptodon, of the same subfamily (Loricariinae) and whose data FishBase does record: Pseudohemiodon has no congeners in the catalogue. Size: 14.5 cm SL. Distribution: the San Miguel River basin, in the western Amazon. Diet, behaviour and breeding: FishBase does not record them; the text is general knowledge of the sand-dwelling loricariines, not of the species.
Litres per fish, tank sizes and lifespan: the profile's own judgement. The sources consulted do not give them.
