Description
Peckoltia compta is a small pleco of about 6.2 cm, from Brazil. It has strongly marked dark brown bars with a clear line inside them, from the tip of the snout to the edge of the eyes, and small dark spots only on the fin rays. The Latin name means «adorned» and refers to that pattern.
It is a discreet bottom fish, for a small tank with caves and wood.
Behavior
It can be expected to be calm with other species and to defend its cave against other plecos. It asks for small caves and logs.
It lives well with small, calm fish of the middle and upper levels, such as tetras and rasboras.
Avoid housing it with other plecos of its size and with large or lively fish that take its food.
Habitat
Peckoltia compta lives in Brazil. No further data on its distribution or environment are known.

Etymology: from FishBase, compta comes from the Latin comptus («adorned») and refers to its bold colour pattern.
There is no source for this species' water: none of the accepted sources records its pH, temperature or hardness, and the profile's ranges are estimated from its congeners or species of the same genus.
Water: the ranges (pH 6-7.5, 2-10 dGH and 24-28 °C) are estimated from those of Hypancistrus contradens and Acestridium dichromum, small soft-water loricariids in the catalogue: Peckoltia has no other representative in it. Size: 6.2 cm SL. Distribution: Brazil, with no further detail. Behaviour, diet and breeding: FishBase does not record them; the text is general knowledge of the genus, not of the species.
Litres per fish, tank sizes and lifespan: the profile's own judgement. The sources consulted do not give them.
