Description
Boehlkea fredcochui is a tetra of about 5 cm from the Amazon basin that swims in the middle and upper levels of the tank. It is a schooling characin, calm and robust, of soft to moderately hard water, that looks best in a group with plants.
The IUCN considers it of least concern. It is an easy fish for a community tank of calm fish, though not as common in shops as other tetras.
Behavior
Peaceful and gregarious, it forms schools and must be kept in a group of eight or more; with fewer it becomes shy. It swims in the middle and upper levels and appreciates plants and a dark bottom.
It lives well with other tetras, corydoras, dwarf cichlids and small loricariids.
Avoid housing it with large or aggressive fish and with fin-nippers.
Habitat
Boehlkea fredcochui lives in the Amazon basin. Its habitat has not been described in detail; all that is known is that it inhabits tropical fresh water between the bottom and the surface.
Boehlkea fredcochui is a schooling species, which means that in the wild it lives and moves in large, coordinated groups.
Keep at least 8 individuals so they feel comfortable and their stress level stays low.
